Liu Deren, the founder of the True Great Daoism, was born in 1122 in Cangzhou, Hebei. At the age of six, he encountered the Jingkang Rebellion and later moved to Taipingshan, Yanshan. He learned the “Dao De” teachings of Laojun, who also taught him to spread this teaching “to cultivate oneself and to transform others.” In the second year of the Jin Huangtong period [1142], founded the True Great Daoism. The main teachings of the religion are: 1. Treat others as you would like to be treated; do not nurture the heart of harming and anger; 2. Be loyal to the king, filial to your parents, and sincere to others; do not speak in a flattering manner, and do not speak evil words; 3. Eliminate evil and immorality, and maintain purity and tranquility; 4. Stay away from power and influence, be content with being poor and humble, work hard and eat, and live within one's means; fifth, do not gamble, and do not steal; sixth, do not drink alcohol or eat meat, and be content with what you have; seventh, be humble and weak-minded, and be modest and humble; eighth, do not rely on strength, but be modest and humble; ninth, be content and not be humiliated, and know when to stop and not be in danger. Scholars should keep these in mind. In the early years of the Jin Dynasty, he was ordered to live in the Tianchang Temple in the capital and was given the title of Dongyue Zhenren. The True Daoist religion reveres Liu Deren as the first generation, which was passed down from generation to generation. The second generation was Chen Shizheng, the third generation was Zhang Xinzhen, the fourth generation was Mao Xicong, and the fifth generation was Li Xicheng. He was deeply trusted by Emperor Xuanzong of the Yuan Dynasty, and made the True Daoism, which had been spread invisibly among the common people, become public and gradually move towards the upper class. Especially, he lived in Tianbao Palace in Yancheng, had close contact with Emperor Xuanzong, and developed the True Daoism, which made it popular in the world. After Li Xicheng died, the sixth generation Sun Defu was passed on. Sun Defu was also appreciated by Emperor Shizu, and was once awarded a bronze seal, and later a silver seal. After Sun Defu died, the seventh generation Li Dehe succeeded him, and Li Dehe was succeeded by the eighth generation Yue Dewen, who was succeeded by the ninth generation Zhang Qingzhi. The True Way of the Dao was practiced for 38 years and lived for 59 years. Its teachings emphasized hardship and danger, and it did not take from others without good reason or be extravagant with itself. He taught people to be simple and honest, to think less and desire less, to be modest and sincere, and to guard the qi and nourish the spirit. The content is roughly similar to that of Quanzhen Taoism. After the Yuan Dynasty, it gradually declined and was mostly subsumed into Quanzhen Taoism.
