Shanghai Tongbai Palace Taoist temple. On Weihai Road in Shanghai. Around the 15th year of the Republic of China (1926), Ai Langxuan, a Daoist priest from Jiangxi and the former high priest of the Qingxu Temple in Shanghai, established this temple with the support of a wealthy merchant. At the time, the main religious activities were “inviting scriptures” and the practice of repentance as the main religious activities. During the Sino-Japanese War, due to the protection of the concession, the entire period of the occupation, the incense was flourishing, the number of legal affairs, and the number of vegetarians were unmatched by any Taoist temple in Shanghai. After the victory of the war, the legal affairs were even more prosperous. Later, the temple gradually declined until it was completely abandoned.
