So although Lu Dongbin became a high immortal later, he still relieved the living beings in the earthly world. Especially for the poor and sick, Dongbin paid more attention to save them.

  During the Northern Song Dynasty, there was a year when malaria was prevalent in Tokyo (now Kaifeng City, Henan Province), and there was a vegetable seller, whose children and grandchildren were all infected with malaria. One day, a Taoist monk came over, the old mother greeted him with tea, courteous, and sighed: "The children and grandchildren at home are sick, can you cure them?" The Taoist said, "Wait for me tomorrow morning." Early the next morning the old mother waited, and the Taoist priest gave him a gauze bag, wrapped with a pill, and said, "Let him take this pill when he is sick, and he will naturally get well. One pill can cure a hundred people, but if there are more than a hundred people, it will not be effective." The old mother did as he said, and after her children and grandchildren were cured, she used it to cure her neighbors of boils, and cured a hundred people in all. When there were more than a hundred, the medicine was no longer effective. The old mother opened the bag of gauze, there was no medicine inside, but only a note, written "Lu Dongbin" three words.

  A poor woman in a town of E-cheng, Hubei Province, has always suffered from paralysis, crawling to the bridge every day to beg. One day, a Taoist priest passed by and asked her about her, the poor woman replied: "My husband died and I have an 80-year-old mother-in-law, so I come here every day to ask for some money to feed her." When the Taoist heard this, he handed her a brown whisk and said, "Take the whisk and try to get up." The woman took the whisk and stood up. Then he said, "Try to follow me." The woman took a few steps, but her paralysis disappeared and she was able to walk again. She thanked him and said, "Where do you live, sir? We can come to your door to thank you." The Taoist priest said, "I live upstairs in someone's house." When the woman returned home, her mother-in-law was very surprised. When she asked why, she realized that she had met a good man. The next day. When she found the family upstairs, there was no Taoist priest, but when she looked up, she saw the portrait of Lu Dongbin, which was the same as the Taoist priest she met yesterday, and she realized that she was saved by Lu Dongbin.

There was a rich merchant who admired Lu Dongbin so much that he burned incense and worshipped and prayed every day and night with great devotion, and his offerings were also clean.   八仙之中，吕洞宾名声最响。因为他行踪不定，经常在人间济世度人，上到达官贵人，下到乞丐娼妓，都有受过他点化的。据说，当年钟离权多次传授吕洞宾金丹大道，待钟将最秘密高深的道理讲解明白，忽然有两位仙童手捧金简宝符，传达玉帝诏命，委派钟离权为“九天金阙选仙使”，如同凡间科举的主考官了，只是主考仙界，何等荣耀。钟离权拜受诏命已毕，对吕洞宾说：“我马上要升天去了，你好生在世间修行，等到功德圆满。也会如我一样。”洞宾回答说：“我的志向与老师有些不同，必须度尽众生，才肯上升天庭。”所以吕洞宾虽然后来成了高仙，仍然在尘世救济众生。特别是贫穷患病的，洞宾更注意救治。

  北宋时，有一年东京(今河南开封市)疟疾流行，有位卖菜的老妈妈，子孙都染上了疟疾。一天，有位道人过来，老妈妈招呼他喝茶，礼数周到，并叹息说：“家中子孙都病，先生能否施治呢?”道士说：“明天早晨等我来。”第二天清晨老妈妈便等在那里，道士给他一个纱袋，包着一丸药，说：“发病时让他拿着这药，病自然会好。一丸可以治疗百人，超过一百人，便没有效验了。”老妈妈照他的话　做，子孙病好之后，又拿来治疔邻居，共治好百人之多。超过百人，药便没有效验。老妈妈将纱袋拆开，里边没有药，只有张纸条，写着“吕洞宾”三个字。

  湖北鄂城某镇有—位贫穷的妇女，向来患有风瘫症，每天爬着来到桥上乞讨。一天，遇见一位道士经过，问起她来，贫妇回答说：“丈夫死了，还有位八十岁的婆婆，每天来这儿讨些钱米供养婆婆。”道人听后，便将棕拂麈—头递过去，说：“拉着拂麈起身试试看。”妇人牵着拂麈，果然站了起来。又说：“你且试着跟我走。”妇人跟着走了几步，瘫病竟全部消失，恢复了行走能力，忙拜谢说：“先生住在哪里?我们可以登门道谢。”道士说：“我住在某人家的楼上。”妇人回到家，婆婆十分惊异。问起缘故，知道遇上好人。第二天．找到那家人楼上，并没有道士，—抬头，见到吕洞宾画像，与昨天碰到的道人—模—样，才知是吕洞宾救治。

  吕洞宾类似的故事极多。不过，遇到假正经的市侩，他也会给他们一些教训。有位富商，—十分仰慕吕洞宾，朝夕焚香礼拜祷告，很是虔诚，供品也洁净。一天吕洞宾变做—个贫穷的道人，拿件旧袍子，到富商当铺中质当，富商拿袍子—捏，发现袖中有金钗一枝，心卜暗暗欢喜，以为道人旨定不知道有这值钱东西，便不声张，收进袍子，稍给了几个钱。道人走后，富商拿出金钗来，却见附着一张纸，题着几行字：“今日忆，明日忆，忆得我来不相识，钗子留得作香钱，从今与你不交易。”这钗子权当还你供我的香火钱，大家扯平，从此之后再不和你来往了。商人见条，知道——念之差，与神仙当面错过，后悔不迭。但已没有用了。
