A little while later a true official in vermilion clothes descended from the clouds, and there were more than a dozen divine generals, all with swords and wearing dragon and tiger military symbols, with an extremely large number of ghosts and gods in their ministries. There were immortal officials in yellow and green clothes each holding a volume of books. Those gods and generals all bowed to Chien Chiu. The true official said to Chien Chiu, "The Heavenly Emperor has ordered me to grant you these two books, and the gods and generals, officials and soldiers will be at your disposal to save the people of the world." Chien Chiu bowed to receive the great books and read them, the contents of which seemed to be the military records of the earth, and the immortal officials were in charge of the books, saying that whenever Chien Chiu called, the gods and generals would come at his command.   道士叶干昭，常云游天下，经常醉醺醺地在街上行走，似乎在装疯卖傻，有时口中突然发出叱斥之声，似乎在大发威风。人们好奇地问他干什么，回答说：“刚才见到某处闹火灾，某地闹旱灾，所以降雨救护。”人们几次实下来，果然都不错，叶千昭的名声便传开了。他经过的地方，如果正逢旱灾，都请他救治。千昭备起香案，启告一番，很快就会下雨。有人请他召来雷霆，他只要将脚在地上—捺，便从地底发出辘辘声，然后雷声轰鸣。也有因雨下得太久而来请叶止雨的，他只要一作法，天便放晴了。冬天太旱请他求雪，千昭穿着单衣，赤脚站在太阳厂长啸歌咏，一会儿便风雪四合，日以继夜地下起大雪。

  要说叶千昭这种神秘的道术，却得之不易。他原是江西建昌人，年轻时便拜西山道士为师，学习许逊、吴猛二真君留传的道术，辟谷炼气。曾经独自在山中修炼，一天忽然刮起大风，下起大雨，惊雷闪电，面前突然出现一个穿白衣的人，向千昭礼拜，并说：“你修炼多年，道德已完美，达到仙家要求，所以名字录入仙籍，可以在人间召役使唤鬼神，更增添功绩。现在神人即将降临，你可以和他们相见，什么也用不着害怕。”于是千昭焚起香案，拱手默坐。一会儿，云中有位穿朱红衣服的真官降临，又有神将十多员，都带着剑，佩带龙虎兵符，部下的鬼神极多。有穿黄衣、绿衣的仙吏各捧着一卷簿册。那些神将都向千昭拜礼。真官对千昭说：“天帝命我授予您这两册簿书，神将吏兵都归你役使，以救护世上百姓。”千昭拜受大书，捧读簿书，内容好像是人间的兵藉，仙吏们掌管着簿书，说只要千昭有召，神将们便会应命前来。从此之后。干昭长啸—一声，便有风从山林涧壑中刮起；喷一口水，便有雨水流满原野；脚捺地，便有辘辘的雷声发动；手指天空，便有电光闪烁。

  叶千昭也常给人治病。咸通十年，他云游到濠州，正碰上刺史刘防突然中风，已经垂近死期，请来的名医都已说无力回天。这时干昭手持拐杖，直进州衙说：“幸而我来到，使君可以再生了。”于是画三道符，分别贴在刘防肩部、腋下及腿上，说：“驱赶风邪，从脚底出来，三天后就可痊愈。”果然有风从脚心飕飕地出来，三天后完全恢复了健康。刘蚊昉将千昭迎来府衙，要重谢他，可千昭却自顾自走了，再也寻不见踪影。十多年后，又隐居于西山，直到五代时还时不时有人见到他。
