Lady Taizhen is the younger daughter of the Queen Mother of the West, whose name is Wan and style name is Luofu. After she married Xuantu Taizhen Wang, they had a son, who served as the supervisor of the Heavenly Court for three days, in charge of supervising violations in the Heavenly Court. Because he was young and playful and ignored his duties, he was demoted to control the ghosts and gods in the East Mountain, and was not allowed to be reinstated for 500 years. Lady Taizhen went to persuade her son to diligently cultivate the Way so that he could make up for his mistakes as soon as possible.
On her way back to the heavenly court, Lady Taizhen saved an official named He Junxian. Seeing that he had the makings of a fairy, she intended to convert him. She therefore renamed him Ma Mingsheng, returned to the stone chamber on Mount Tai, and first tested his courage with jackals, wolves, tigers and leopards, and then his sincerity with beautiful women, wealth and sex. Ma Mingsheng remained composed and unwavering in his resolve, much to the liking of Lady Taizhen. Later, when Lady Taizhen had to return to the heavenly court, she entrusted Ma Mingsheng to An Qisheng and taught him: There are nine levels of the fairy way:

One is the body of a dragon born in perfect harmony with nature; two is the cream of the jade fetus and the nectar of the sky; three is the flying pill of purple flowers and flowing essence; four is the richness of the red light and the green clouds; five is the nine kinds of red flower elixir; six is the golden liquid of the supreme purity; seven is the pill of nine transformations of frost and snow; eight is the nine cauldrons of cloud-like essence; and nine is the flying pill of the flowing stone of cloud-like light. These are the nine levels of transformation. There are also nine ranks of immortals: the first is the supreme immortal, also known as the Lord of the Nine Heavens; the second is the next immortal, also known as the Lord of the Three Heavens; the third is the supreme immortal; the fourth is the immortal of the flying sky; the fifth is the immortal of the spirit; the sixth is the immortal; the seventh is the immortal of the spirit; the eighth is the immortal of the flying sky; and the ninth is the immortal. These are the ranks of the nine immortals, and each is different from the next, so they cannot be surpassed. The Golden Elixir Dan method you know is actually beyond learning. As for the Jade Emperor's elixir, it cannot be made by someone with shallow learning. Although you are gradually entering the true way, you have lived on earth for a long time and have been tainted by the world. Your Daoist practice is not genuine, and you still need to concentrate on your cultivation. Now I will introduce Mr. Anqi to you. I hope you will take the Dao seriously, progress step by step, and ascend the immortal path as soon as possible. After finishing speaking, he left on a dragon.
Ma Mingsheng traveled with his master Bo Anqi for twenty years, finally learning the golden liquid elixir formula passed down by Anqisheng, and following the formula to refine the liquid elixir, which he took and departed as an immortal.

 太真夫人为西王母的小女儿，名婉，字罗敷。她与玄都太真王结为夫妻后，生有一子，任三天太上府的司直,主管督查天曹的违纪。因其年少贪玩，不顾正事，后被降管东岳，管制鬼神之师，五百年内不许复职。太真夫人为使儿子尽快补过，特前往劝其勤奋修道。
太真夫人在返回天庭途中，救下了一名叫和君贤的官吏。见其有仙根，有意度化，遂更其名为马明生，折回泰山石室中，先以豺狼虎豹试其胆量，再以美女财色试其诚心，马明生皆神情自若，心坚情定，深得太真夫人的喜欢。后太真夫人要返天庭，遂将马明生托给安期生，教诲道：神仙之方共有九品：

一名太和自然龙胎之体；二名玉胎琼液之膏；三名飞丹紫华流精；四名朱光云碧之腴；五名九种红华神丹；六名太清金液之华；七名九转霜雪之丹；八名九鼎云英；九或云光石流飞丹。这些皆是九转的品位次第。得仙者亦有九品：一为上仙，号九天真王；二为次仙，号三天真王；三为太上真人；四为飞天真人；五为灵仙；六为真人；七为灵人；八为飞仙；九为仙人，这是九仙的品第，其问各有等差，不可超学。你所知道的金液丹法实为超学。至于玉皇的灵药，非浅学之辈所能为之。你虽渐入真道，但久居人间，被尘世所染，道行不实，还需潜心修炼才是。现将安期先生引见于你，望以大道为重，循序渐进，早登仙路。说完便乘龙离去。
马明生随师博安期生周游青城庐潜，历时二十年，终于学得安期生传授的金液神方，并按方炼成丹液，服之仙而去。
